WordPress plugin guide

This plugin shows your Madoake seminars and events on your company's WordPress site. Lists and seminar pages are written out as pages of your site, so search engines read them as your site's content. Madoake handles registrations, bookings and inquiries.

Download the plugin (zip)v0.3.2

What it does

Change seminar details, dates, capacity and fees in Madoake. The plugin fetches them again regularly (every 10 minutes by default for lists) and updates your site.

Install

  1. Download the zip with the button above (don't unzip it).
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now.
  3. Click Activate Plugin. "Madoake" appears under Settings.

To update, repeat the same steps and choose "Replace current with uploaded". Your settings are kept.

Requirements: WordPress 6.0 or later, PHP 7.4 or later.

First settings

In Settings → Madoake, set the following and save.

After saving, the connection status at the top shows how many seminars were fetched and when. If it's empty, click the button to fetch and sync now.

Show a seminar list

Paste the shortcode [madoake_seminars] into a page. Upcoming seminars are listed by date, followed by past ones.

AttributeMeaning
layoutlist (default: image on the left), card (large images), or compact (text only, with large dates)
cols1–3 columns. Defaults: 1 for list and compact, 3 for card. Always 1 column on phones
limitNumber of upcoming seminars (1–50, default 20)
pastNumber of past seminars (0–12, default 3; 0 hides them)
[madoake_seminars layout="card" cols="2" past="0"]

Set the page title (e.g. Events) as the WordPress page title. To change the markup, put madoake/seminar-list.php in your theme and it is used instead of the plugin's template.

Create seminar pages on your site

You can create a page for each seminar on your site (e.g. https://example.com/seminar/seminar-url/). The list links to these pages, and the register button leads to the Madoake registration page.

In WordPress

  1. In Settings → Madoake, turn on creating a page for each seminar.
  2. Choose the middle part of the URL (e.g. seminar) and save.
  3. The page URL pattern (e.g. https://example.com/seminar/{slug}/) appears. Copy it.

In Madoake

  1. Open Company → Company settings in the Madoake admin. If you publish seminars under a brand, edit the brand on the same screen.
  2. Paste the pattern into "Seminar page URL" and save.

Madoake registration pages then tell search engines that the page on your site is the main one (canonical). This keeps two copies of the same content from splitting search ranking, and gathers it on your site. The Madoake registration page still works for registrations and as the landing page for ads and social posts.

To keep a seminar's Madoake page in search (e.g. an online webinar), turn off "Point search engines to the seminar page on your website" in that seminar's settings. No site page is created for it, and the list links straight to Madoake.

Seminar pages appear under "Madoake seminars" in the WordPress menu. Titles and descriptions are overwritten from Madoake, but anything you write in the site-only notes box (directions, what to bring) is kept and shown below the description.

Embed forms and booking pages

Show Madoake forms and booking pages inside your pages. Validation, bot protection, notifications and confirmation emails work as set up in Madoake.

ShortcodeUsage
[madoake_form slug="contact"]A form. Add thanks="/thanks/" to move to that page after submitting
[madoake_booking slug="consult"]A booking page. mode="button" label="Pick a time" opens it in a popup from a button. thanks works too

The slug is the last part of the Madoake public URL: https://madoake.com/URL-name/f/here for forms and https://madoake.com/URL-name/here for booking pages.

After a submission or booking, a generate_lead event is sent to your site's Google Analytics 4 (when gtag or Google Tag Manager is installed). The height adjusts to the content automatically.

Show seminars in your theme's own design

If your theme already has an events list or a home page section, you can mix Madoake seminars into it in two ways.

Mix them in as posts (when seminar pages are on)

The plugin writes the date and other details to the seminar posts (post type madoake_seminar) under the same field names your theme's event posts use. Add madoake_seminar to the post type of your theme's query, and seminars are mixed in by date.

  1. In Settings → Madoake, enter the field names (custom fields or ACF fields) your theme's event posts use for the date, weekday, fee and registration link. Leave unused ones blank.
  2. For an ACF date field, the date format is Ymd (e.g. 20261102).
  3. Change the post type in your theme's list query like this.
'post_type' => array( 'events', 'madoake_seminar' ),

Use the functions in your templates

Check with function_exists before calling them, so your site keeps working if the plugin is deactivated.

Record Contact Form 7 submissions as leads

If your site already takes inquiries with Contact Form 7, turn on lead registration in the Contact Form 7 section. Submitters are added to your Madoake lists. It works when the tracking tag is on, and links the submission to the person's earlier visits. In the same section, enter your form's field names for email (required), name, company and phone.
